Planning a first look for your wedding day will help you create a moment that will last forever. This is typically a tender moment filled with love and excitement for the bride. By capturing how your groom and others reacting to your wedding day look, you will be able to relive that moment a hundred times over! Let’s plan a first look together and how to make the moment even more unforgettable.
You can plan a first look with anyone you want! Typically I have brides have a first look with their groom, dad and even bridesmaids. However I have also had brides have a first look with grandparents, in-laws, and even their mom. Each offers a special moment for the bride and her loved ones.
When planning a first look with your groom, I will help you on finding the perfect spot at your venue for your first look. We will want to find a secluded location, a place that you will not be interrupted by guests. As well as a place that is unique to your wedding venue and has great lighting. This may be in a quiet room, a secret garden or even in your ceremony space. No matter the location, it will be a wonderful and tender moment.
Having a first look with your dad is a really sweet way to spend a little extra time with your old man! I have been a wedding photographer for almost a decade now, and I have seen so many fathers struggle with emotions on their little girls wedding day. It can be hard to give away your daughter! By taking the time to give your dad your undivided attention, you will sooth his heart and create a special moment for both of you.
When planning a first look I suggest you set aside about thirty minutes in your timeline. Typically this will be right after you finish getting ready and right before your ceremony. Sometimes I have brides go over in the time they have planned to get ready in. This is why I always suggest planning a bit of a “buffer time” in between events. This is a moment that you don’t want to miss out on!
Creating a sacred moment during your first look can help prepare you for your ceremony. It is a time to be grounded, hush those nervous butterflies and be reminded of why you are marrying your sweetheart. I love when my couples read personal vows during their first look or even pray together. It is such a beautiful moment that evokes such raw and timeless emotions.
Planning a first look on your wedding day will help you to create tender moments that will serve as beautiful memories for the rest of your lives! I would be honored to be your Northern California wedding photographer and capture your first look, as well as the rest of your wedding day! Let’s connect and plan the perfect first look for you!
