Let me guess, you’re in the trenches, planning your wedding and are getting overwhelmed, or you’re newly engaged and don’t know where to begin? Girl! I’ve got you. I have a series called “A Bride’s Guide” where I answer some of the most common concerns brides have.
Looking for some help? Look no further, I’m your girl!
When it comes to picking a florist, there are major things that your florist has totally got to know to make your day what you dreamed it would be.
Since we got the news of moving to Knoxville, I’ve been doing some research and calling around some of the South’s best florists in the surrounding areas
such as Carolina Flowers, Narcisse Greenway Design and Satara Flowers in Asheville, NC to give you the best of the best.
One of the florists that I absolutely fell in love with was Amy Doster, owner of Talley’s Florist in Gastonia, NC. Amy was born in Cherryville, NC and now lives in Gastonia, NC where she took over a cute little florist shop with support from her husband.
Amy loves flowers. She became a florist by opportunity and hard work and I love a girl who hustles, so we immediately clicked! When I asked about how she got into florals she said, “My husband came home one day and told me that one of the old flower shops was closing. It was so cute and we couldn’t let it go…I went out on a whim and bought it before it closed down.” How freaking cool is that?
Amy has been doing flowers for over 10 years and she’s no amateur when it comes to helping brides make their dream a reality with their wedding flowers. She does a great job of establishing a relationship with those she’s serving and covers these 6 SUPER important topics:
Get to know your wedding budget: Make sure you are completely transparent with what you’re working with. Don’t be shy when it comes to your budget, it makes for wayyy less headaches later on. By establishing a limit to what your budget is, it makes it easy for Amy or any florist to know what things to offer and what’s possible. Flowers aren’t cheap!
Bring some inspiration with you: Or should I say pin-spiration? Eliminate the mind-reading or guesswork your florist might go through by showing a picture of what you may be envisioning. A florist can deliver something you want by showing her what YOU want. For some fun 2020 trends for flowers, check out these unique and gorgeous arrangements for ideas.
Pick some colors you love: Depending on the season, certain flower colors are more prominent and easier to get than others. By telling your florist what your wedding colors are, she can help with choosing the right flowers for the colors you’re wanting, after all they’re the experts right?
Think about the numbers: Is your bridal party huge? Or is this an elopement bouquet? How many grandmas do you want to have wear a corsage? Letting the florist know how many people will need a bouquet or boutonnière is a must to make sure your bridal party are looking the part for your big day!
Pick a theme- Are you looking for a boho vibe? More rustic feel? Whatever it may be communicate that with your florist to ENSURE that you’re getting the perfect flowers to complement the rest of your decor
Communication is KEY– don’t be afraid to express how you feel to your florist, at the end of the day it’s your big day and they are there to help make your vision come to life!
Amy from Talley’s Florist has not only given great tips but she is truly there to serve and help you make florals one of the more fun and enjoyable parts of your wedding planning. She found her “new calling,” when they bought the shop in 2009. She loves her home state because of the ocean on the coast, the Smokey Mountains to the west, and the gorgeous green that runs coast to coast. She also loves serving brides. When I asked Amy what her favorite part of doing weddings is, she said the brides! No joke, she told me, “I’ve never met a bridezilla!”
Doing the flowers part of your wedding doesn’t need to be so stressful. Especially with the southern love and hospitality of the people in Knoxville TN, you are in GOOD hands, my friends.
So there you have it, a florist doesn’t just put flowers together. An excellent florist creates and designs with a purpose and person in mind.
I’d love to help make your day perfect by capturing those unforgettable moments you’ve worked so hard to make. Let’s chat about how I can help!
