Planning a wedding in Napa Valley, California, and don’t know when you should get married?
There’s a reason why this is a destination for thousands upon thousands of couples every year! It’s romantic, lush, and gives you all the essence of a Mediterranean, luxury wedding but your wedding guests don’t need to get their passports!
It’s a dream come true for many couples, thanks to its breathtaking vineyards, golden sunsets, and romantic venues.
As a Napa wedding photographer and videographer who has worked with hundreds of couples who chose a destination weddings, I thought I’d tell you what it’s like during the different times of the year when you get married in California!
One of the best things about getting married in Napa Valley is that there really isn’t a bad time to get married there. If you want more tips about getting married in Northern California, check out my post here!
Spring starts in early March, and seeing the vineyards and orchards blooming gives your wedding day the perfect romantic backdrop. The weather isn’t bad either. If you get married in the summer, you want to make sure that you are prepared to help your guests stay cool!
However, Northern California does get some rain in the spring! So work with your planner and venue for an outdoor/indoor backup plan. As a photographer, cloudy skies don’t bother me one bit. We’ll capture it perfectly. The only thing I will emphasize is that the green of the grass and fields is vivid, so keep that in mind!
Summer weddings in California always involve a debate. The hills are golden, everyone can take off work and come to your wedding, and the beach is such a quick drive away, but here are some advice I have if you’re getting married in the summer in California.
Shade. If you have an outdoor venue, choose one with shade, or provide adorable umbrellas or structures that keep everyone cool in the heat. Have your programs turned into cute fans that keep everyone cool. Keep water within reach, and try to make sure that you don’t have any big events that involve the elderly between noon and 3:30pm. The later, the better!
I personally always bring a neck fan for myself as well as a handheld fan that I can use to help keep my bride and grooms cool!
Oh my gosh, if you want to have the perfect weather and the perfect photos, run NOW and book a venue, because this is their peak season. The venues have the most beautiful golden leaves, and you don’t have to worry much about rain or heat.
This is a great time to get a good rate from your favorite venue, because it is off season! The venues themselves are so pretty, but you wouldn’t have as much beauty outside unless the venue has a lot of arcitecture, or if you’re alright with a little bit of a brown/gray backdrop. If you are, the weather will be a “cool” 60 degrees, so having cute wraps and having lots of greenery in your floral design will help make everything look great!
If you have any questions, or want to hear more about my favorite venues to get married out in Napa, I’d love to help you! My schedule is starting to book up for this year, so reach out if you need a wedding photographer or videographer!
