Guide For Taking Engagement Pictures

When a couple gets engaged, it’s extremely exciting to begin seeing the reality of a life together. For example, you get to show your future children pictures of when you were dating, engaged and eventually married. Engagement pictures are the first major important pictures a couple will take to immortalize the relationship. But how do you begin to prepare to take engagement pictures? What things should you know?

I’ve got just the thing. This article is a guide for things you need to know to plan for a perfect engagement photo session. Below are some tips I offer brides when they ask me, “What should wear I wear for the engagement session?”

• Pick complementary colors- I suggest complementary colors instead of matching colors. Doing this helps give the picture dimension, plus it better shows you both off!

• Stay away from bright colors – Bright colors can distract from you and your cute fiance and nobody wants that!

• Bring something to change up the shoot (hat, scarf, another outfit) – I like this because it’s a great way to incorporate more personality to the session and gives you variety!

• Look for inspiration on Pinterest

• Find outfits that make you feel freaking good about yourself! – You want to feel confident and beautiful in these pictures, and finding an outfit that makes you feel confident is going to make the pictures turn out that much better.

• Do something unique to your relationship (hiking, snowmobiling) – I’m always down to make an adventure out of anything, if you guys spend time outdoors let’s center your session around that. I’ve done such fun shoots where my couples show off their passions, and it makes it so much more fun. We’ve done snowshoeing, snowmobiling, adventuring in the Tetons, and even played in some water!
