Social media is like a child that requires lots of time and energy. Nevertheless we continue to love and prayer in hopes it will grow. Instagram has been a huge asset to my business these past couple of years. I’ve been able to reach more people and grow my Instagram following like crazy. While it may seem hard and time consuming (which it totally can be!), I’m going to share a few of my tips. These tips are a huge help, and allowed me to gain back some sanity. My techniques and strategies aren’t just for photographers. They’re for any business owners or anyone looking to grow their online presence. I’ve been incredibly blessed by the ability my team has had over the last couple of years to grow my Instagram following. But it didn’t come easily. Not without any hard work and a few tears. Similarly to anything in life, it takes effort, and practice.
Let’s get to it! I’m going to share the best things I’ve done to grow my Instagram!
Instagram loves consistency. Which means, you’ve got to show up and post more than once every couple of days. I’ve found the sweet spot for Instagram to be posting between 3-6 times a week. However, you’ll have to experiment and see what the magical number is for your business! Don’t forget about using all of Instagram’s latest and greatest features, stories, reels, and guides. Utilizing all of these tools are a great way to stay consistent and how I am able to continually grow my Instagram following.
Give the people what they want! I promise as soon as I start showing my face, I was able to grow my Instagram following like crazy. People want to see who they are investing in, and get to know you. However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. It’s going to be awkward and weird to jump on camera and just talk to the world, or take all the selfies. But, when I am myself on my stories, or post a picture of me, those posts receive the most love and support. Your followers want to know you, let them get to know you!
Let’s make a real connection. I was able to grow my Instagram following by continually making genuine and real connections with people. To this day I receive the most leads from Instagram because I’m myself, and I show up for my followers. I always reply to my direct messages, and will even send fun GIFs (everyone loves to see Michael Scott dancing in their inbox). Comment on their posts, reply to what they are messaging and commenting on, be real.
As business owners it can be incredibly daunting and scary the amount of tasks that are on our plates. We wear a lot of hats, and to those business owners that are parents, you know exactly what I mean. It’s a lot, and can be overwhelming. The best thing I ever did for my business was invest in a rock solid team of people around me. My team are incredibly strong and knowledgeable businesswomen that care about my business just as much as I do. We collaborate everyday and strategize together. I was able to grow my Instagram following because I had help. I am able to focus on the fun part of my job, and let my team manage the things that bring me stress, and overwhelm me.
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help! Just because you own a ‘small’ business doesn’t mean it can’t grow into something BIG and AMAZING.
